[REC] 4: Apocalypse to screen at TIFF's Midnight Madness

Today, the it was announced that Spanish zombie/demon film [REC] 4: Apocalypse will be making its World Premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival's MIDNIGHT MADNESS programme.

The fourth and reportedly final installment in the franchise that began with Paco Plaza and Jaume Balagueró's 2007 POV zombie flick [REC] catches up with the heroine of that film, Angela Vidal (Manuela Velasco), as she wakes up in a high-security quarantine facility at sea. But what does she remember of the horrific supernatural events that overtook her? Is she carrying a virus? Distrust spreads through the isolated facility while new, even more deadly forms of evil spread even faster.

After [REC] and [REC] 2 (review), co-directors Plaza and Balagueró decided to ditch the POV gimmick and break up the directing duties for the rest of the franchise. In 2012 we got to see Plaza go solo in the delightfully funny and gory [REC] 3: Genesis (review). We can only speculate what apocalyptic developments we'll see as the franchise culminates in Balagueró's [REC] 4 when it premieres this September at TIFF's MIDNIGHT MADNESS.
